About Calcoul

Calcoul provides free, browser-based calculators for estimating the quantity of landscaping and construction aggregates — gravel, crushed stone, sand, topsoil, mulch, paver base, and more. Every result is computed on your device; no account is required and nothing is stored on our servers.

Why We Built This

Ordering bulk material is deceptively hard. A cubic yard of dry sand and a cubic yard of wet gravel weigh very different amounts, and suppliers sell by the ton, the yard, or the bag depending on the material. Most people end up either over-ordering and wasting money or under-ordering and making a second trip. Calcoul eliminates that guesswork with one transparent tool per material.

How the Calculators Work

Each calculator follows the same three-step formula:

1. Volume — length × width × depth, converted to cubic yards.
2. Weight — cubic yards × the material's bulk density (sourced from quarry specifications and ASTM reference values) to get tons.
3. Bags — total volume divided by the volume of one standard bag (0.5 cu ft), for projects where bagged material is more practical.

The density values and conversion factors used in every calculation are visible in the calculator itself. There are no hidden adjustments or upsell multipliers. Results are estimates; actual quantities may vary slightly depending on compaction, void space, and local material specs. We recommend confirming final quantities with your supplier before ordering.
